About UsQummunity Connections is a peer support and community action group for folks who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ between the ages of 15-30.
Our intention with this group is to provide a safe space for youth and young adults to gather for support, social activities, education, guest speakers, "qummunity" events, workshops, volunteer projects, and more! QC prioritizes peer leadership in the development of our activities and programming. |
Testimonial from a youth:"Sometimes I hear people joking about how lots of queer youth move away from the Comox Valley because they want to go live in a city where there are more queer-friendly spaces.
That's why Wachiay's Qummunity Connections group means so much. It's one of the only local places where queer youth can hang out in an inclusive and sober environment. For at least two hours a week we know we can go be among other people who respect our identity. Imagine what a big difference that makes in our lives: to feel seen and accepted for who we are. The age range is 15-30, so it's awesome that people who've graduated highschool can still come (lots of groups are just for highschool ages and when you graduate, you age out). And at QC I feel like we all get to learn from each other regardless of age. The facilitators are some of the kindest, most inclusive people I know. And, if you want to talk about "going above and beyond," I know that the facilitators have put in loads of extra volunteer hours to plan special events for us. I hope people recognize how special this group is and keep it going for many years to come!" -Anonymous |
